Who's who tutorial

Page history last edited by Liz James 4 years, 7 months ago

This is a great place to start editing!  Follow the tutorial below to add your name to learn how to make the main components of a wiki page, run links, etcetera.  When you're done, you can leave your page up to tell others a bit about you (or delete it if you prefer).

Note:  These instructions assume that you are in "point and click" rather than "classic" mode.  In the upper right corner of your browser, there is a link to either "switch to classic mode" or "switch to point-and-click" mode.  If it says "switch to classic mode" that's what you want (because then, of course, you aren't already in classic mode).

1.  Print out these instructions or cut and paste them into a window in your word processor, then click on "edit page" to get started.

2.  Now that you're editing this page, you could change anything you want.  Put the cursor below the heading "Who's Who".  Click on the "link" button on the toolbar.  A little window will pop up.  Type your name in the "New Page Name" blank.  Notice how you could also link to an outside page, or a page that's already been written on the wiki.  Click "save".

3.  Click on the name you just created, then click on the blue box marked "create new page".

4.  That was easy!  Now you're ready to add some stuff about yourself.  Begin by typing your name across the top of the page.  Use the font size to make it "large", and feel free to experiment with colour, bolding, and underlining.  Please don't use any of the Headings under the format button.  We're saving them.

5.  If you have a digital picture of yourself (or of anything you can pretend is you for the purposes of this tutorial), click on "insert image".  Use "browse" to find it on your computer, then click "upload" and "OK". (Note that if you were uploading a file instead of a picture, it would be exactly the same except you'd click on the attach file button instead!)

6.  Now we get to use the Headings.  Select "Heading three", and type About Me.  Hit return, and put in a line or two about you.

7.  Now use  Heading Three again to put a "My Home Congregation".  Hit return, and put in a line or two about where you attend and what you do there.  If your home congregation has a webpage, try adding a link by using the link button on the toolbar.  This time, instead of selecting new page, try making an external link.

8.  Now use Heading Three again to put in "Why I'm a Unitarian", and add a line or two about that.  Please don't hesitate to use other categories--these are just three off the top of my head.

9.  Now go back to the top of the page, right under your name.  Click on "insert plug in" and take a minute to look around at all the neat plugins you can add before clicking on PBwiki magic-->table of contents.  Click next until you can click finish.

10.  You're ready to see what you've done!  Click Save to see!
