Pastoral Care Committee

The Pastoral Care Committee of First Unitarian Congregation of Toronto is committed to supporting

the spiritual development and health of its members. One aspect of this is the delivery of

care by lay members to other members who are sick or dying or who are caring for a sick relative.

The Committee members arrange for teams of people willing to provide such ongoing care. While

caregivers do not provide nursing or other medical services, they do try to fulfill members’ needs

and provide a listening presence. They receive training in pastoral visitation. Please contact the

committee if you know of someone who needs support or if you want more information.

Pastoral Care Training – Allan Brand

The Pastoral Care Committee is offering a workshop for all who are interested in becoming

pastoral care visitors. Pastoral care visitors support those members of the congregation who

are sick, dying, or who are in need of emotional and physical support. They also form a liaison

with members of the Pastoral Care Committee.

The workshop will take place on Saturday 3 February from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm at First Unitarian

Congregation of Toronto. Topics covered will include setting up and running pastoral

care teams, working with the sick and dying, understanding the health care system, and endof-

life fears. In addition, the workshop will deal with how to communicate with those who are

dying, as well as how to provide meditation for the dying. This workshop will provide both a

time to learn and to share information about our experiences with pastoral care. Please bring

a dish for a potluck lunch.

To sign up for this workshop or to get further information, please call Allan Brand, Chair of

the Pastoral Care Committee, at 416-690-3242 or email him at allanbrand99@hotmail.com.

Please confirm your attendance before 27 January.
